Edoardo earned his master’s degree in Agri-Food Production and Agroecosystem Management from the Department of Agricultural, Food, and Environment (DAFE) at the University of Pisa. His thesis focused on post-harvest food technologies, exploring innovative approaches to enhance food preservation and quality.
Following his studies, he became involved in research activities within the 2023/36.2/CiRAA – PRINT Project, which aimed to evaluate and promote sustainable agricultural practices. His research analysed the impact of conventional farming systems in agroecosystems, highlighting their environmental challenges. He also investigated how diversifying cropping practices could help mitigate negative effects, enhance soil health, and improve overall system resilience.
Currently, Edoardo is pursuing a PhD focused on the quantitative and qualitative assessment of ecosystem services provided by legume crops through an agroecological vision. His research is co-funded by the Horizon Europe project Valereco and Organic Yield Up, which support the advancement of sustainable farming models. In particular, he explores the role of legume crops in delivering essential ecosystem services such as weed control, nutrient cycling, carbon sequestration, potential reductions in greenhouse gas emissions, and biodiversity conservation.
Adopting a participatory approach, he collaborates closely with stakeholders to co-develop innovative, science-based solutions that promote cropping system diversification. His research aims to provide a deeper understanding of the contributions of legume crops to agroecosystems, ultimately supporting the transition towards more resilient, biodiverse, and sustainable agricultural systems.
