Valentina Cantini is a second-year PhD student in Agriculture, Food and Environment at the University of Pisa, Department of Soil Chemistry. Her research project deals with the development of new biofertilizers based on biochar (from wood residues) and organic source of nutrients such as human urine and pig slurry, in order to promote the use of recycled materials as soil fertility improvers. She graduated in Analytical Chemistry in 2019 with an experimental thesis entitled “Use of chemometric tools to study phosphorus adsorption capacity by peat soils in Massaciuccoli lake area (LU)”. After her master’s degree she has focused on the study of soil chemistry particularly regarding the optimization of synthesis fertilizers dosage and the reduction of nutrients loss in the environment. After her bachelor’s degree in Chemistry she got several scholarships in nutrients recovery and phytoremediation field. She is also interested in the use of Chemometrics and Experimental Design to approach different issues as procedures optimization and data processing.
