Wangyang Jin is a PhD student in Agriculture, Food and Environment at the University of Pisa, supervised by Professors Andrea Serra and Xiaojun Yan. Wangyang’s research focuses on the culture and nutritional quality of the copepod Tigriopus fulvus and its potential use as live feed in aquaculture.
The PhD project investigates how algal diets influence copepod fatty acid profiles, protein content and mineral composition, and evaluates the effects of copepod supplementation on juvenile fish growth and nutritional composition. It also explores culture optimization through artificial substrates, rotifer co-culture and mesocosm systems.
Wangyang’s research experience includes copepod cultivation, feeding trials, nutritional characterization and the monitoring of population growth and developmental stages. Research interests centre on understanding how live feed production conditions affect nutritional value and how these changes translate into benefits for fish. The broader aim is to develop reliable culture methods that support the practical use of copepods in aquaculture.
