Research Field: Agricultural Economics
Short bio and research interests:
Andrea Lippi is a PhD student at the University of Pisa, in the Department of Agricultural Sciences, specializing in agricultural economics. During his bachelor’s degree, he studied the fundamentals of agricultural sciences, while the focus of his master’s degree was agricultural production and agroecosystems management. His master’s thesis examined unfair trading practices observed in the fruit and vegetable value chain in Tuscany. Building on this background, his current research project is about the analysis of food value chains through the application of true cost accounting, an analytical approach developed to measure and value the hidden costs of food and identify possible pathways to achieve food systems that are sustainable across the economic, social and environmental domains.
Andrea’s research interests lie at the intersection of natural sciences (with particular attention to agriculture), economics and social sciences, and the integration of these fields to face the challenges of our times. His research approach emphasizes trans-disciplinarity and the adoption of systems thinking.
